Parkas
A casual style of coat that is intended to be more about practicality and comfort rather than fashion, a parka coat is typically waterproof and features a hood and is therefore designed to be used in the colder months in the wet weather. Many contemporary parka coats also have drawstrings and have been especially popular with the recent military look trend.

Trench coats
Generally made from leather or another heavy material, trench coats are a traditional style of coat that have been brought into the modern day with a fashionable twist. Typically waterproof, trench coats are also ideal for wearing during rainy seasons. A womens trench coat will not usually have a hood however and will likely be double-breasted with belt detail.

Blazers
A formal and usually tailored style of jacket that has been a big fashion trend this past year, womens blazers have been teamed with jeans for a more casual look thats very chic. Of course, a blazer is more suit to the summer months and warm spring or autumn days, as theyre typically made from thin materials.

Leather jackets
Originally making an appearance a couple of years ago as a latest trend, leather jackets seem to be sticking around for the next few years. From casual leather bomber jackets to more stylish fitted leather jackets, theyre all fashionable yet practical mainly because a real leather jacket offers warmth too.

Stonewash
This does literally involve washing the jeans with stones. In this instance, pumice stones are used. The stones in the wash rub against the outermost layer of the fabric and make it look more worn. Color typically leaks out and the material fades slightly. Different sizes of pumice stones can be used to give different effects.

Colored
This is a fairly obvious finish and the fabric is dyed to give a new color. This finish can then be combined with others for a different look.

Sand blasted
The jeans are sprayed with sand to give them a fairly heavily worn look. The sand can be directed just at specific areas to localize the effect.

Distressed
These jeans are worn down, frayed and sometimes cut to make them look like you’ve owned them for years. The wear and tear normally is in areas of the jeans that age the most.

Whiskered
These jeans have had abrasion techniques used on them to create the worn lines that older denim has around the knees and crotch. This technique again, makes the jeans look older than they actually are by artificially wearing them down. Sanding or pumice stones can be used for this effect.

Some choose to create chunky bracelets from old jeans and others even go as far as using the waistline of the jeans to make belts. Wallets or purses are also fairly simple to make from jeans and this is usually done by using the pocket parts of the jeans.

More than just an accessory

As well as creating a range of funky accessories, old jeans can also be used to create new clothing such as denim shorts or skirts. Skirts can be worn both long and short by simply cutting at the inside leg of both legs and re-sewing into a skirt shape. Short denim skirts never fail to go out of fashion and they are easy to make from jeans of all colours, while mid-length skirts are also popular. Tiny hot pants for the daring, through to knee-length shorts for the more conservative can easily be cut out from jeans and again these colours can vary depending on the seasons trends. Three quarter length trousers are also a simple way to jazz up an old pair of jeans with some choosing to re-hem the bottom where the material has been cut. Others opt for a more casual approach, allowing the frayed bits to hang loose. It is also fairly simple to add some decorative trimmings to a pair of jeans by creating some embroidered patterns or colourful designs. Many enjoy taking a pair of destructive scissors to their jeans, cutting out some funky rips and tears on the thigh, knee and even the backside!
